Dr. M. A. Urbanczyk, Jr., has owned and operated Block House Creek Animal Hospital since it’s founding in 1988. With over 25 years experience in the general practice of veterinary medicine, Dr. Urbanczyk is also a USDA accredited veterinarian. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1982, with degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Science, and earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1984. His passion for animals, his commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine, and his dedication to his patients have won him the trust and loyalty of many long-time patients and their caregivers.
Dr. Stacy Curl, DVM, began her passion for veterinary medicine in 2002 when she began working for Dr. Urbanczyk in the kennel after school. In 2007 she graduated from the University of North Texas with a BS in Biology and Chemistry. Next she pursued her veterinary education at Ross University on island called St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and then finished her clinical rotations at Auburn University in January of 2012. Stacy has a special interest for all animals large, small and exotics, as well as internal medicine including ultrasonography. Stacy comes home to her Great Dane "Dallas", a white German shepherd "Maverick" as well as her white long haired kitty "Astro." Stacy enjoys anything involving the great outdoors, and her animals.
Dr. Katherine Judd, DVM, is a transplant from Southern California. She graduated from Ross University in 2012 after completing her clinical course work at Auburn University in Alabama. Kat has special interests in large exotics, avian medicine and also enjoys seeing everything in between. When she is not working Kat enjoys horse back riding, hiking and playing with her dogs, Pickle and Naughty Pants.
Dr. Jonathan Stone graduated from Texas A&M University Veterinary School with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Before returning to Austin to be closer to family in 2008, he practiced in Ashville, North Carolina. He has a special interest in surgery. When he is not attending to his beloved patients, Dr. Stone attends Jiu-Jitsu classes with his son.
Dr. Robert Rhyne graduated from Texas A&M University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1984. After graduation, he practiced in Florida for eight years before returning to Texas in 1992. His pets include a female sheltie, Skittles, and two cats, Phoebe and Chi Chi. He enjoys saltwater fishing, mountain biking, and racquetball.
Dr. Bruce Lawhorn received his Veterinary Medicine degree, his Veterinary Science degree and his Veterinary Microbiology degree from Texas A&M by 1989. He has a special interest in the diagnosis, management, prevention, and control of swine diseases, swine surgical techniques, swine biologics, and new swine disease diagnostics techniques. He is also currently a visiting professor at Texas A&M University.
Chris Lavas, Office Manager, first started working for Dr. Urbanczyk in 1990 while he was in high school. He continued working through his college years, in the summer and Christmas holidays. In 1997 he graduated from Texas A&M University with BS in Animal Science. Before returning to Block House he owned his own restaurant in downtown Austin for ten years. Chris is our additional office manager as well as senior technician, and surgery technician. In his free time he enjoys playing and coaching baseball with his three children.
Kathy Babola, Office Manager, began working at BHCAH in 2009 as a receptionist. She spent 16 yrs as an Operations Manager at a Resort and 8 yrs. working in Hospitals with Medical Records, Family Therapy and Obstetrics. Kathy was born in Texas but spent 7 years in Alaska where she learned to love animals and archeology. She spends her free time at the lake with her family and two dogs, Sable and Malenka.
Stacy Berry, Groomer, has been a professional groomer for the past 10 years. Her knowledge of breeds, understanding of pet behaviors, and her true compassion for animals of all kinds has allowed her to excel at her profession. Stacy has dedicated her life to working with animals. Previously, she was a veterinary technician for 14 years working with small, exotic, and equine patients. She has trained and worked with dogs in obedience, herding, flyball, and conformation. Stacy currently is the founder, and operates Lend-A-Heart Ranch & Rescue Inc., a nonprofit animal rescue. She grooms here at Block House Creek Animal Hospital on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This allows her the time needed to work with the rescue animals. Stacie McDonald, Groomer. Stacie lives in Leander with her husband and two daughters. They share their home with a cat and a very rambunctious Australian shepherd/border collie mix. Stacie and her family moved to Texas from Omaha, Nebraska in June 2011. Stacie has been grooming for 25 years and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. She has experience in most breeds and over the years has enjoyed the many personalities of our four-legged friends have to offer.
Additionally, our reception staff, veterinary technician staff, and grooming and kennel staff are typically experienced in either the veterinary field or a related field; all receive in-house training in providing caring services to all our patients.
